The Start of Something Amazing

When life throws you lemons, you make lemonade.  When life throws you lemonade, you drink, and drink, and drink.

Something Old
I have been working with video since college, when I received my degree in Communications with an emphasis in videography.  I loved it!  I remember spending hours working on an Amiga (think beginning of computer-based video editing) just to make two seconds of computer animation.  For the time, it was ground-breaking.

I also remember chasing down the president of the university where I was studying (actually, back then it was a college, but it’s grown immensely since then).  I remember doing a fake news story for a videography class.  The premise was that my professor had gone off the rails, and I asked the president to play along.  He was was happy to oblige, and the segment was a great success.  Even the professor laughed at the premise and gave me kudos for the hustle.

Something New
I’ve worked with video off and on over the past several years doing dozens of videos of varying types and lengths for various projects.  It’s something that I really enjoyed jumping back into.  Technology changes so much, but the fundamentals stay the same, making the process more streamlined to do some amazing things.

Over the past few years I’ve jumped in, bolstering my knowledge, tools, and experience.  And that means a lot of new videos. I’ve done corporate videos, demonstration videos, event videos, green screen videos, podcast-style videos, augmented reality videos, drone videos, and even tinkered with some 3D videos.  In short, I’ve really enjoyed jumping back into something that really engages me.

Something Borrowed
And so I’ve borrowed a few pages from some of my other projects and I’ve reinvigorated this blog.  This will be my opportunity to share what I’m working on, to highlight new ideas that can be useful to others, to share my discoveries about avoiding certain pitfalls, and to help others to know great ways they can improve their video skills or use video in what they are doing.

There are some exciting things to share from five scenes in an upcoming sci-fi movie I’ve been involved with, some learnings such as dealing with green screen bleed, on set experiences and more.

Something Blue
This begins something old.  It’s something that I’ve be doing for many years.  It’s something that I’ve enjoyed and continue to enjoy.

It begins something new.  Throughout all of my experiences working with video, this will be the first time it’s from my own production company.

It’s something borrowed.  So much of life is simply learning from the past to move forward in the future.  I will be using things I’ve learned to apply them with today’s technology.

Oh… and the blue thing - that’s just the logo.  It made the saying work.

I’m looking forward to sharing with you the inside scoop on Cedowin Productions.  It’s going to be a lot of fun.
